Wholesale Solutions partners with first major non-adult retailer in New Zealand to sell sex toys
New Zealand’s largest adult toy distributor, Wholesale Solutions, has partnered with New Zealand’s largest online retailer of general goods, Mighty Ape, to launch a sex and intimacy category to satisfy New Zealand’s increasing demand for sexual wellness products. A spokesperson said it’s a first for the small country of five million and indicates that adult has finally gone mainstream.
Delivering to more than 460,000 New Zealanders every year, Mighty Ape is one of the country’s leading online pureplay shopping sites for general consumer products. Seeing an increasing demand for sexual wellness goods, it has partnered with Wholesale Solutions, New Zealand’s primary supplier of adult toys and sexual wellness products based in Wellington, to fulfil growing demand. Shoppers can buy games, toys, electronics, books, homewares and can now add adult toys to their orders.

The retailer has stocked Durex products for years with strong sales, but 2020 saw increased demand for its sexual health products, leading to the launch of Mighty Ape’s sex and intimacy department which carries more than 40 popular adult toy and sexual health brands, including Satisfyer, Lelo and New Zealand brand Share Satisfaction, Ms Grayson explained.
“The lockdown last year triggered a collective shift when it comes to pleasure, self-care and being open and unashamed of your needs and preferences. It was clear that our customers are interested in sex and intimacy products and feel comfortable purchasing them from Mighty Ape, so we decided to expand our range to meet demand.”
Wholesale Solutions Business and Product Development Manager, Taslim Parsons, said the partnership with Mighty Ape illustrates the normalisation of sex toys and pleasure in New Zealand.
