NOVUM continues its expansion course despite corona crisis

With immediate effect the German retail chain NOVUM Märkte GmbH, headquartered in Bielefeld, has taken over three branches of Zentaurus-Handels GmbH, which were previously operated under the brand name EGO. “We wanted to come out of the crisis stronger than before and we have more than succeeded in doing so with the takeover of the three locations in Schwarmstedt, Bockel and Oberhonnefeld”, explains Lothar Schwier, founder and owner of NOVUM Märkte GmbH. “We have been working on the takeover of the three locations for a long time and are now more than happy to add them to our portfolio. With the two locations in Lower Saxony, we significantly complement our presence in Northern Germany, and with Oberhonnefeld, which is located in Rhineland-Palatinate, we are sending a clear signal that we are also expanding in Southwest Germany”.

All three locations are located at motorway exits with very high traffic volumes: Bockel on the A1, Schwarmstedt on the A7 and Oberhonnefeld on the A3. The three former EGO stores will soon be redesigned to fully comply with NOVUM’s corporate design and allow consumers to shop in the familiar and appreciated ‘NOVUM atmosphere’. To ensure that even more consumers in Germany can enjoy a NOVUM store in the future, the expansion course will be maintained. “We are working on further locations, have submitted building applications and are in talks with local authorities and cities,” says Lothar Schwier about his plans for the future, which have not been slowed down by the Corona crisis either. “2019 was the best year in our company’s history and we were also able to achieve good results in January and February 2020. Then came the lockdown, which we have weathered well thanks to reserves that we have been able to build up over the years. Now we are enjoying good sales again and a very strong consumer interest in all products that make love life more enjoyable. We are therefore looking very positively to the future!“
