Sustainable Sex Toys + Ethical Condoms = ‘GOOD KAMA’
As the world emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, we find ourselves in the midst of an even more complex global challenge: that of climate change.
The theme for the upcoming 2022 World Health Day is ‘Our Planet, Our Health’ and light of this, British sustainable sex toy manufacturer, Love Not War has teamed up with eco-friendly, for-purpose Australian brand, HERO Condoms to collaborate for ‘our health and our planet’. The two brands have created a limited edition blue sustainable sex toy called ‘GOOD KAMA’, and for every one sold will donate 24 free eco-friendly condoms to a community in need.
The collaboration highlights the importance of access to condoms as a crucial component in the comprehensive and sustainable approach to health equality. With around 200 million people every year having unmet contraceptive needs through unfair and uneven distribution policies, condoms offer a safe and highly effective method of preventing unplanned pregnancy and STIs, including HIV.
The socially responsible brands are calling on their consumers to consider the impact their lifestyle choices could have on the environment, with condoms, sex toys and other related items contributing to the estimated 222.9 million tonnes of waste that is accumulated annually in the UK alone.
This partnership builds on HERO Condoms existing model of donating one condom to communities in need for every condom sold. To date, HERO has donated over 2.3 million condoms globally, in Botswana, Australia and New Zealand. HERO also supports frontline health organizations by providing condoms to try and ensure that they have adequate and regular supply for those who need them.
David Wommelsdorf Founder and CEO of HERO says: “HERO is a socially responsible company that offers body-safe and environmentally friendly condoms and we’re a strong activist for the equitable distribution of contraceptives. Equal access to contraception is essential for equitable health care, gender equality and overcoming poverty. Love Not War shares these values and, just like HERO, is focused on being eco-conscious. We hope that this partnership stimulates conversations about sexual and reproductive health rights and sex positivity, and empowers people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.”
Will Ranscombe Founder and CEO of Love Not War, say: “The health benefits of using sex toys is well documented and clear links have been shown between toy use and improved sleep quality, bladder control and even mental health. Awareness around sexual wellness and sex-positivity has never been greater but at the same time the emerging pressure on our planet has also never been greater. Love Not War and HERO are two brands that place similar importance on people and the earth above all else and that is why this partnership is so important for us both. We’re thrilled to not only be championing good sexual health and wellbeing through this collaboration but also using our platform to promote safe sex. KAMA is one of our favourite products and we’re excited to help shape a more sustainable and sex-positive world; an inclusive world where everyone has access to healthy and eco-friendly contraception.”
